In 2020 I Am Going To "Read"Discover My Shelf

February 1, 2020

I use Goodreads to track my books. In early January I was scrolling through all the books I had read in 2019. It shocked me how few of them I had truly been excited about. How did I let this happen?

The reasons are many. The most glaring? The majority of my reading was “assigned.”  I was in 4 different book clubs. Yes. 4.

2020 is the year I read for myself. During 2019 I let go of 2 of my bookclubs, one of which I had been attending faithfully each month for 5 years.

I have paired down my obstacles and am free to read my shelf - I feel so liberated!

I am calling this project: ReadDiscover My Shelf. The reason for this name being that I saw some books that I haven’t read in a long time. I might be taking some detours to “read” discover some old favourites! ;)

Here are the guidelines I have set for myself:

  • I will start at the top of my shelf and work my way down

  • I will write a brief review for each book I read and post it here!

  • I will be evaluating whether or not I want to keep said book in my personal library or if I need to move it on!

My goal is to rediscover what it is I have in my personal collection, and reevaluate if it still is a good representation of who I am as a reader. I have a lot of books that I have owned for years, I have some that I bought when I was at a very different stage in my life then where I am now.  I want to curate my personal library to represent who I am as a reader now and as I begin my journey through the next phase in my life.

I have read 0 of 70 unread books. Project #readdiscovermyshelf has begun!
